About RCELL

Origins

Dr. Vishwanath Bite founded The Criterion: An International Journal in English in 2010, to give scholars in English studies an accessible, high-quality platform for peer-reviewed publication. In 2012, the Research Centre for English Language and Literature (RCELL) was formally established as an independent academic publishing and research initiative. Galaxy: International Multidisciplinary Research Journal was launched the same year, extending the same editorial standards beyond literary studies into a wider range of disciplines.

RCELL later became the publisher of The Criterion, so that both journals now share one institutional home. RCELL is also the parent organisation of Literary Rides, its learning initiative for students and teachers of English literature.

RCELL operates independently of any university, government body or commercial publisher, and is responsible for the institutional and administrative dimensions of its publishing activity.

Scholarly Purpose

RCELL brings together editors, reviewers and scholars from universities and research institutions in India and abroad in support of rigorous peer-reviewed research, critical inquiry and ethical publishing practice. Its work is guided by principles of academic integrity, transparency, open access and the long-term preservation of the scholarly record.

Commitment to Academic Integrity

RCELL's editorial boards operate independently, and publication decisions are based solely on academic merit, originality, relevance and adherence to ethical research standards. International Scholarly Engagement

RCELL's editorial boards and contributing authors span multiple countries, and both journals are indexed in a range of international academic databases. RCELL's conferences and collaboration pathways extend this engagement further, connecting researchers across institutions and borders.

Literary Rides: Learning Initiative

Literary Rides is RCELL's learning platform, with the motto “English literature, explained.” It serves students and teachers of English literature, and candidates preparing for the UGC NET and JRF examinations in English. It offers free study material and solved previous UGC NET English papers, video lessons on its YouTube channel, the Literary Rides podcast hosted by Dr. Vishwanath Bite, and structured examination preparation. Literary Rides is a teaching initiative; it is separate from the editorial work of RCELL's journals.

RCELL's scholarly activity is carried out chiefly through three channels: its two peer-reviewed journals, described in full on the Publications page; its programme of academic conferences, described on the Conferences page; and its research orientation, described on the Research page.
